Access Statement for Higher Huxley Hall

This access statement does not contain personal opinions as to our suitability for those with access needs, but aims to accurately describe the facilities and services that we offer all our guests/visitors.

Introduction

Higher Huxley Hall is an historic manor house dating back to the 13th century and provides B&B accommodation. We are situated in open countryside on the edge of the small village of Huxley which is 7 miles from the ancient city of Chester.

We offer 4 guest bedrooms, two of which are situated on the 1st floor and two are situated on the 2nd floor. We do not have any ground floor bedrooms.

The house has automatic smoke alarms in all bedrooms and public rooms.

Whist we aim to meet the needs of all our guests there are some period features of the house which may make access difficult for people of limited mobility.

Pre-Arrival

  • For full details and maps of how to reach us please see the location map on our website. This includes details of the limited bus service from Chester to Huxley. The bus stop is at the end of our tarmac drive which is 200m. from the house. There is no shelter or seating at the bus stop.
  • You can plan your journey by car or public transport using www.transportdirect.info. Simply enter your postcode and ours which is CH3 9BZ to get directions.
  • The nearest railway station is Chester which is 7 miles away. Taxis are available at the station. Local taxis are listed on our website in the location map section.
  • The nearest shops are 2 miles away in Tattenhall which is the next village to Huxley.
  • We regret that we are unable to accept guests’ pets but do welcome assistance dogs.
  • We no longer provide evening meals/dinner but are able to recommend local restaurants and book a table for you. The nearest restaurant/pub is in Huxley and is approximately ⅓ of a mile away.

Car Parking and Arrival

  • There are 3 parking spaces in front of the house approx 10m from the front door. In addition there is a large car parking area approx 100m from the front door.
  • The drive and area in front of the house has a tarmac surface. The area in front of the house is lit at night by a motion sensor light.
  • There are two 128mm (5ins) steps to the front door and a 50mm (2ins) threshold
  • Assistance can be given with luggage.
  • Welcome Area

  • Guests are welcomed through the tiled front porch into the Lounge Hall, which is level throughout, where they are asked to register. Seating can be provided with an upright chair, with or without arms.
  • A magnifying glass, pen and pad of paper are available on request.
  • The room is carpeted and the area is well lit.
  • Bedrooms (all en suite)

  • All bedrooms have fire doors with spring closures to meet fire regulations.
  • All of our bedrooms offer the following: good overhead lighting, bedside lamps, short pile carpet, all bedding is non feather, widescreen digital television with remote control, and subtitles.
  • All our bathrooms/shower rooms have non slip safety flooring.
  • The height of all the beds from the top of the mattress to the floor is 534mm (21 ins)
  • Our two 1st floor guest rooms (bedrooms 1 & 2) are accessed by means of wooden stairs with five 178mm (7ins) steps, small landing, three 228mm (9ins) steps, small landing, and then three 228mm (9ins) steps. There is a hand rail on one side.
  • Our two 2nd floor guest rooms (bedrooms 3 & 4) are accessed by means of wooden stairs with five 178mm (7ins) steps, small landing, ten 215mm (8.5ins) steps, landing, twelve 215mm (8.5ins) steps followed by a top step of 280mm (11 ins). There is a handrail on one side.
  • Free WiFi access is available in all bedrooms.
  • Bedroom 1 (1st floor)

  • The bedroom has a super king bed.
  • The bedroom is accessed by a 203mm (8ins) step.
  • The shower room has a toilet 406mm (16ins) high.
  • The shower cubicle is accessed by a step of 254mm (10ins).
  • Bedroom 2 (1st floor)

  • The bedroom can offer either twin beds or a super king bed.
  • The bathroom has a toilet 406mm (16ins) high.
  • The shower is above the bath and a non slip bath mat is provided. The height of the bath is 545mm (21.5ins).
  • Bedroom 3 (2nd floor)

  • Please note that there are low wooden beams across the bedroom.
  • The bedroom can offer either twin beds or a super king bed.
  • The shower room has a toilet 420mm (16.5ins) high.
  • The shower cubicle is accessed by a step of 178mm (7ins).
  • Bedroom 4 (2nd floor)

  • Please note that there are low wooden beams across the bedroom.
  • The room is accessed by a short ramp 30mm (12ins) long with a height of 75mm (3ins).
  • The bed is king sized.
  • The shower room has a toilet 420mm (16.5ins) high.
  • The shower cubicle is accessed by a step of 178mm (7ins).
  • Lounge Hall

  • The room has a mixture of seating with a settee and soft chair as well as some high chairs with and without arms as well as a low coffee table.
  • The room has short pile carpet and is well lit.
  • Dining/Breakfast Room

  • The room is situated off the lounge hall on the same level
  • The room has short pile carpet and is well lit.
  • The chairs around the dining table are available with or without arms.
  • There is a side table where guests can help themselves to cereals, fruit and yogurts but assistance can be given.
  • Cooked food, beverages and toast are served directly to the dining tables.
  • Downstairs Cloakroom

  • There is a downstairs unisex toilet and washbasin which is available for guests.
  • It is located from the hallway and is step free/level entry.
  • The toilet is 432 mm (17ins) high.
  • The floor is tiled.
  • Garden

  • The garden area is large with lawns, flower beds, fruit orchard and a greenhouse. There is an ornamental pond with ducks and it is surrounded by a fence.
  • There are paved pathways around the house and into the garden. Seating is available in the garden.
